Friends Make My World Go 'Round
July 30, 2003 - 2:02 p.m.

Last night, Lauren and I went to visit the recovering Jeannie. Jeannie had surgery two weeks ago. Pins were inserted into five of her toes. The pins protrude from the ends of her toes. It looked painful like I cant begin to imagine. She was in good spirits, though, and grateful for the company. We arrived bearing gifts of flowers, chocolate mousse cake, and pizza. Jeannies kids, Caitlin and Jeremy, are beautiful. She complains about their behavior as if they are holy terrors, but I think they are simply acting their ages. Easy for me to say.

Today I met Vanessa for an al fresco, brown bag lunch. We dont get to do this nearly as often as Id like since I usually go to the gym on my lunch break. While we were dining at the park by the river, we were approached by two young women and a guy in a giant carrot costume. They gave us coupons for salads at McDonalds (anyone want mine?) and then asked if they could photograph us with Carrot Boy. We obliged. (Vanessa consented on the condition she receive royalties if the photo was published. Gotta love her style.) Next, they wanted our names, in case the photo was published. While Vanessa took care of this request, I had the following conversation with Carrot Boy:

CB: Great day today, isnt it?

Me: Yes, its beautiful. You must be hot wearing that costume. [It was made of thick, plush fabric like a stuffed animal.]

CB: Its really not bad, except for these nylon sleeves. I make a cute carrot, dont I?

Me: Yeah, you look good in it. I think you have a future.

The trio departed, Carrot Boy working his costume.

I just received an e-mail from Jenny, who is coming to visit next week. It really sucks when your two best friends on the planet live out of state. In a positive light, however, it is testament to the strength of our friendship that we still feel so connected when we havent lived near each other in years. Cant wait to see her.

Today is Sandys birthday, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SANDY!

Just a tribute to how much my friends rock. Carrot Boy rocks, too.
